Services — The process

How we’ll work together

Step 1: A casual chat by phone or email

When you first call or email me, we’ll try to answer some initial questions to discover the scope of your project.

You’ll tell me a little more about what you have in mind, what your objectives, budget and deadlines are, and we’ll discuss the problem are you trying to solve by hiring me.

You don’t have to commit to anything, simply call me for an informal chat and we’ll take it from there.

Step 2: Obtaining a quote

After we’ve spoken about your project and I’m able to estimate the amount of work involved, I’ll email you a detailed quote.

Depending on your project, your quote will either be a fixed project price or be billed by the hour (time required to complete your project). Either way, you’ll be able to see exactly what will go into your project and know in advance when you’ll have it completed.

You can then review the quote, ask questions, and let me know when you’re ready to start. You can sign the agreement and send it back to me, and we’ll start the project.

Typically, I’ll require a deposit of 30% of the total amount to begin working. Halfway through the project, another 40% will be billed. Finally, the remaining 30% will be invoiced upon completion of your project. For tight deadlines, I often use PayPal for the convenience of my clients.

Step 3: Starting the project

On the day your project is scheduled, I start working on your communications project. When I believe the copy is ready, I will let it sit overnight and review/edit it in the morning before sending it to you.

You can then take some time to look it over, show it to colleagues, and gathering your feedback. When you’re ready, we can either talk it through or you can email me your thoughts in the document as a review or within the email itself.

Step 4: Reviewing and Feedback

Based on your feedback, I use your notes and edits to produce a second version, a more complete draft. It’s a good idea to take some time after you receive the first draft to really look through it in detail, and request the major revisions at this time.

The text may require a second round of minor reviews to get it just right. Every project quote includes two rounds of revisions. Your copy is ready when you and I are both happy with it.

Step 5: The final product

When your copy has found its home on the internet or in print, I always request to see it in its final format to give it a quick glance.

If you like what I’ve done for you, I always appreciate referrals and testimonials.

The initial investment to hire a freelance copywriter may seem steep, but it will it pay for itself several times over. Professional copywriting and editing can bring enormous value to your business, not only through improved sales but also through an enhanced reputation for quality.

Long after I’m gone, the copy I prepared for you will continue to bring you results and revenue. You may be investing in me in the short term, but ultimately, you’re investing in the promotion, marketing and success of your own business.
